Moss (born February 13th, 1977) is a former American football player. He played
with the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New England
Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans) as well as the San Francisco
49ers in the National Football League. The most admired wide receiver of all
time together with Jerry Rice, he holds the NFL single-season record for
touchdown receptions (23 in 2007) in addition to the NFL single-season record
for touchdown reception for a rookie (17 in 1998) and is second in the NFL
all-time regular season touchdown list, with 156. Moss was well known for his
ability to secure contested catches and the word "mossed" has become
part of the football's lexicon. He began his career as a studio analyst on
ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Tuesday Night Countdown shows. Moss was from
Rand, West Virginia native. He attended DuPont High School. It was one of two
schools that later merged into Riverside High School. There Moss excelled in
basketball, football, baseball track, track and other sports. Randy was also on
the school's debate team. Moss was a DuPont Panthers' football player who led
them to two consecutive states championships in 1992 and 1993. The position he
excelled at was wide receiver. But he also played free safety as well as punted
kickoffs. He also was the team's punter as well as kicker. He was honored with
the Kennedy Award in 1994 as West Virginia's Football Player of Year. Parade
magazine named him to their All-American high school football team in 1995, and
in 2009 his name was named one of the 50 best footballers from high school
ever.
